Malaysia – 4Q 2017 GDP

In 4Q 2017, Malaysia’s real GDP grew 5.9%, year-on-year – see figure 1.

 

On the production side, the agriculture sector recorded a double-digit growth of 10.7%, while the manufacturing, construction, and services sectors rose by 5.4%, 5.8%, and 6.2%, year-on-year, respectively. The mining & quarrying sector declined 0.5%.

 

On the expenditure side, government and private consumption increased by 6.9% and 7.0%, year-on-year, respectively. Public investment fell by 1.4% whereas private investment rose by 9.2%. For the external sector, export and import growth grew 7.1% and 7.4% respectively. Details next week.
