Japan – Oct Household Spending

On a month-on-month basis, nominal and real monthly expenditures for two-or-more-person households in Oct rose by 1.9% and 1.8% respectively. On a year-on-year basis, nominal household spending rose by 1.4%, while real household spending slipped by 0.3%. Meanwhile, year-on-year nominal and real worker households’ spending fell by 1.2 % and 2.9 % respectively. The average propensity to consume for workers’ households rose slightly from 69.9% in Sep to 70.0% in Oct, though it remained at a low level– see figure 1.
