In Jun, total exports surged 38.8% year-on-year to RM146.2 bln. Total imports hit record high, soaring 49.3% year-on-year to RM124.2 bln (figure 1). The trade surplus fell 0.8% to RM21.9 bln.


The export growth was driven by increased exports of major commodities and major manufactured products (table 1). The major destinations of Malaysia’s exports in Jun were Singapore, China and US, accounting for a combined 38.8% of total exports.


The imports of manufactured goods increased 44.6% year-on-year. China and Singapore were the two main source countries of imports, accounting for 33% of total imports.
