In Jun 2026, total exports expanded by 45.4% year-on-year to RM177.9 bln. Meanwhile, total imports surged by 43.9% year-on-year to RM163.0 bln, compared with a 14.4% growth recorded in the previous month (figure 1). As a result, the trade surplus increased by 64.9% to RM14.8 bln.
Exports of major commodities increased by 42.4%, while exports of major manufactured products surged by 53.9% (table 1). The United States and Singapore remained as Malaysia's top export destinations during the month, jointly accounting for 33.6% of total exports. Exports to the United States surged by 113.3% year-on-year in Jun.
On the import side, imports of capital goods, intermediate goods, and consumption goods increased robustly by 67.6%, 41.6% and 17.1%, respectively. China and Singapore remained as the main sources of imports, accounting for a combined 40.1% of total imports.

The scenes at Dataran Merdeka after the 2026 World Cup final were deeply disappointing. Thousands gathered for football’s biggest occasion, yet many left behind piles of rubbish that turned one of Malaysia’s most historic public spaces into a litter-strewn mess. Sadly, this is not an isolated incident. Similar scenes have followed festive gatherings, concerts and public celebrations over the years, pointing to a persistent weakness in our civic culture.
A clean city is not maintained solely by municipal workers. It depends on citizens and residents who understand that public spaces belong to everyone. Picking up one’s own rubbish is not an act of charity; it is a basic responsibility. When people expect others to clean up after them, they reveal a troubling lack of respect for fellow citizens and residents and for the nation itself.
Improving civic-mindedness requires more than stricter enforcement, although fines should be imposed on blatant offenders. Schools, families and community organisations must also play a stronger role in instilling habits of responsibility, respect and consideration for others from a young age. Public campaigns should reinforce that patriotism is demonstrated not only by waving the national flag but also by caring for the country’s shared spaces.
National pride is measured by our everyday actions. If Malaysians aspire to build a progressive, respected nation, cleaning up after ourselves is one of the simplest acts to start.
