10 years ago, the Chinese government launched a necessary plan to transform the country's manufacturing sector from being at the low end of the global value chain to a globally competitive manufacturing power. Made in China 2025 (MIC 2025) is a blueprint for industrial transformation and an integral part of president Xi Jinping's rejuvenation of the Chinese nation. MIC 2025 set clear targets for strategic industries to turn China into a strong industrial power that rely less on labour and Western supply chain, and more on automation and new home-grown technologies. This year is the final year for MIC 2025 : how has China fared in her aspiration to become a manufacturing powerhouse and move up the value chain ?
