The seasonally adjusted initial claims for the week ending 1 Augl was 199,000, an increase of 1,000 from the previous week. The 4-week moving average was 198,750, a decrease of 4,500 from the previous week (figure 1).

Continuing jobless claims for the week ending 25 Jul registered a seasonally adjusted 1.801 mln, an increase of 24,000 from the previous week. The 4-week moving average decreased by 5,000 from the previous week to 1.791 mln.
