This week, i Capital initiates coverage on Wentel Engineering Holdings Berhad (Wentel), a Malaysia-based precision established in 2000 and headquartered in Johor Bahru. Listed on the ACE Market of Bursa Malaysia on 6 Feb 2024, Wentel raised approximately RM71 mln to fund its expansion plans, which included the construction of a new manufacturing facility and the purchase of advanced machinery and equipment.

Wentel operates two leasehold manufacturing plants and has acquired two additional sites, including a new 299,701-sq. ft. facility in Kawasan Perindustrian Selatan, Johor Bahru, which is scheduled for completion in the first half of 2026. Upon completion, operations from leasehold Lot 58 will be relocated there, expanding production capacity and supporting future growth.

Note from Publisher

Over the years, i Capital has written many times about the serious impact of climate change and urged all to contribute however little they can to mitigate the dire consequences of global warming. Scientists from the US said that approximately three billion birds have died since 1970 due to climate change and warned that 389 North American bird species will become extinct within the next half-century.

Meanwhile, extreme weather is disrupting bird migration patterns, which could have potential dire implications for humankind. Every year before winter approaches, some birds fly thousands of miles across continents to warmer destinations. However, due to climate change, birds that base their fly-itinerary on day length and other cues might show up too early or too late to a habitat or find that their favourite bugs at these pit stops are no longer there. As a result, birds end up starving and/or unable to find a suitable mate.

Roughly 5% of plants rely on birds to pollinate them; without birds, food production could plummet. In addition, dwindling bird numbers can impact the production of cash crops such as coffee and chocolate or pharmaceutical precursors. When the avian ecosystem is disrupted, humankind will not be spared. Birds are necessary for humankind to survive.
