PADINI HOLDINGS BERHAD (PADINI, 7052)

25/04/2025 07:37 pm MYT

This week, i Capital updates on Padini Holdings Berhad (“Padini”), a prominent Malaysian fashion retailer with two multi-brand labels; namely, Padini Concept Store and Brands Outlet. Padini’s flagship brand, PADINI, was launched in 1975. Padini Concept Store opened in 1999 and presently carries the brands of PADINI, Seed, Padini Authentics, PDI, P&Co, Miki, Vincci, Vincci Accessories, and Vincci Mini. Brands Outlet, which debuted in 2007, includes labels Garage Inc, Industrie Co, Studio, Filanto, Oceano, Ropé, Portofino, Gamester, Hotshots, and BO Accessories.

Padini enjoys a significant presence in Malaysia, having opened over 300 stores here, and has expanded internationally with 32 outlets spread across Cambodia, Thailand, the UAE, Oman, Qatar, Bahrain, and Brunei. Although the Trump reciprocal tariff is on hold for 90 days, the world financial markets continue to suffer from the irresponsible and capricious behaviours of the US 47th president. His threats and subsequent retraction of firing Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell have sent the US stock markets gyrating violently. With uncertainty becoming the norm, chaos and disorder will cost the global economy dearly.

Most ordinary Malaysians are not aware of the precarious condition they could be facing and are not prepared for them. The Malaysian government and the media should be more proactive in warning the people of the coming socio-economic pain that may hit them from the tariffs imposed by Donald Trump. Being prepared when a crisis strikes can make a lot of difference compared with being hit off guard. The efforts by i Capital and Tan Teng Boo to warn the Malaysian people of the serious potential problems are not enough. The government has to step in.
